Reference is made to stories that been appearing in the Media regarding demolition of structurally defective houses in Nairobi and its environs.
Claims that 19 houses developed by the National Social Security Fund-NSSF are among those lined up for demolition is misleading.
As the usual practice any building that is earmarked for demolition is normally marked X and notice of demolition issued by relevant government agencies, which is not the case with any of the NSSF Hazina houses in Nairobi’s South B.
We have had meetings with those relevant authorities, the Nairobi City County and the Ministry of Public Works, who have both confirmed that NSSF houses are not enlisted for demolition.
NSSF as a reputable public institution with a track record in real estate development, only undertakes such activity on legally acquired land with title deeds and approvals from authorities which is the case with NSSF Hazina Estate.
Facts are that; no house in NSSF’s Hazina Estate houses has been marked ‘X’ as a mark of intended demolition or any notice of the same posted anywhere.
According to our NSSF Hazina Estate Managers, Seven Degrees North, a team from the Building Inspectorate of the Ministry of Public works in their routine compliance work visited Hazina estate in Feb. 2016 and only pointed out that some of our buildings needed repainting and proper parking lots marking, but not anything to do with the structural soundness of the buildings.
We would also like to assure residents of the NSSF Hazina Estate South B that their houses are safe.
